Mahatma Gandhi Memorials in Belgium

There are three Memorials of Mahatma Gandhi in Belgium.

(i) At Park Marie Josee in the Commune of Molenbeek, Brussels:

Park Marie Josee in the Commune of Molenbeek in Brussels houses one of the oldest statues of Mahatma Gandhi in Europe. The statue, sculpted by the renowned Belgian artist Rene Cliquet, was installed in 1969 to mark the 100th Birth Anniversary of Gandhiji. Gandhi Jayanti is commemorated every year at the Memorial. A road at Molenbeek in Brussels –Avenue Mahatma Gandhi-- has also been named after the Mahatma.

(ii) At Antwerp Provincial Gardens, Antwerp:

The statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Antwerp Provincial Gardens at Antwerp in Belgium was inaugurated by the then EAM, H.E. Mr. Salman Khushid, on January 30, 2013 in the presence of Antwerp Governor, Ms. Cathy Berx.

(iii) At the Palace of Justice, Antwerp

On the 151st Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a statue of Rashtrapita was inaugurated by the Governor of Antwerp Cathy Berx and Mayor Bart de Wever, in the presence of H.E. Mr. Santosh Jha, Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU, on 02 October 2020. The statue was a gift to the city by the Indian Government. The statue is located near the iconic Palace of Justice, Antwerp.
